When a home is built to face the Bow River and the mountains beyond, the window treatment has one job above all others: protect the view. The entire west elevation here is glass, which brings extraordinary light and, by late afternoon, extraordinary glare. Anything heavy would have closed the house off from the very thing it was designed around.

The answer was a tailored Roman shade in a light-filtering linen weave, chosen for the way it diffuses low western sun into something warm rather than harsh. Each shade is made to the exact opening, so it rests level, folds evenly and stacks neatly above the sill, leaving the lower glass and the river beyond entirely uninterrupted. Cordless operation throughout keeps the lines clean and the rooms safe. In the ensuite, the same fabric was carried through so the shade sits quietly against the marble instead of competing with it.
